New Interface and Features for Ice Accretion in LOCOPIAS
Ice accretion increases a ship’s weight and alters its stability, making accurate assessment essential—especially in polar waters. To address this, SARC has released a new version of the LOCOPIAS ice accretion module, featuring calculations for added weight and center of gravity (COG) alongside a redesigned layout and user interface.
The updated layout divides the main screen into two panels: the left displays all available ice fields, while the right shows a graphical view of the vessel. Users can select vertical and horizontal surfaces for potential ice buildup, specify the ice thickness, and instantly see the highlighted areas and ice layers in the graphical view.
The module then calculates the total ice weight and its COG, automatically adding the results to the weight list for further stability calculations. The module is available for all ship types, but primarily applicable to those operating without deck cargo.
