Step 1. Choose the types of calculations you need.

Please note some of these calculations are required by law for certain types of vessels. If you're not sure which calculations you need, feel free to contact us for professional advice.

Intact stability

Verify compliance with regulatory limits of intact stability.

Longitudinal strength

Verify compliance with regulatory limits of longitudinal strength.

Torsion moments

Verify compliance with regulatory limits of torsion (bending) moments.

Damage stability

Verify compliance with regulatory limits of damage stability.

Step 2. Choose your vessel's cargo type.

For different types of cargo, different calculations and regulations apply. A separate module exists for each cargo type. Each of these modules checks the load against cargo type specific stability and strength criteria.

Non-bulk cargo (containers, general cargo, RoRo, et cetera) can always be positioned freely in LOCOPIAS, at any orientation or angle. Any cargo positioned above deck is automatically included in the vessel's wind contour calculations.

Grain/bulk

Define grain and dry bulk holds by volume, weight, ullage, or percentage. Position moveable grain bulkheads and tween deck panels.

Containers

Allows interactive container positioning. contains numerous container specific loading options, like electronic loading data exchange.

General cargo

Intended for project cargo of any non-standard dimension. Enables exporting 2D cargo stowage plans of any horizontal section.

Pipe stack

Define open pipes as deck cargo, for example for off-shore supply vessels. The module can water trapped in pipes into account as well.

RoRo

Define rolling cargo positioned on multiple RoRo decks. Detect collisions with deck obstructions. Store frequently occuring cargo data for later use.

Step 3. Add modules for your vessel's equipment.

Define your cranes, tanks, and tween deck hatches directly in LOCOPIAS, ensuring your vessel's equipment is taken into account in all calculations.

Cranes

Load cargo with one or two (coupled) cranes. The exact location of the hanging loads are taken into account. Tank counter-ballasting is supported.

Tank sounding

Calculate the volume and weight of a tank's content accurately. The module can optionally communicate with automatic draft and tank gauge systems.

Hatches

Keep track of the use of tween deck hatches, incorporating their weight in all loading conditions. Hatches may possibly also be used as grain bulkheads.

Anchor chain forces

Keep track of maximum allowable anchor chain forces during anchor handling, according to the NMD (2007) or Bureau Veritas (2014) guidelines.

Draft survey

Calculates cargo weight based on measured drafts or freeboards before and after cargo handling. Ballast water and consumables can be taken into account.

Step 4. Take safety measures.

Additional modules are available for LOCOPIAS, which help to ensure the safety your cargo, your vessel, and your crew.

Some of these modules may be required for your vessel, depending on vessel specific or area specific regulations.

Line of sight

Comply with line of sight criteria as stipulated by IMO regulations. Integrates neatly with the modules General cargo and Containers.

Following seas

High quartering and following seas may inflict immediate danger to a vessel. This module assists in avoiding dangerous speeds or courses.

Damage control

Check the vessel's stability in a predefined or real damaged condition. The module can verify against criteria for the final stage and intermediate stages of flooding.
