LOCOPIAS module: Ice accretion
Icing can affect a ship’s stability and must be taken into consideration, LOCOPIAS can calculate the ice accretion with this module.
When navigating through polar waters additional hazards can affect a ship’s stability and must be taken into consideration. One of these hazards is the increase of weight by ice accretion which leads to a decrease of stability. SARC has introduced a new LOCOPIAS loading computer module that calculates the weight and COG of the ice accretion.
The software takes the ship’s outer layout into consideration to calculate the ice accretion on all vertical and horizontal surfaces. Surfaces can be selected and covered with a layer of ice. The ice accretion can then be found in the weight list and is included in the stability calculation.
The module is available for vessel types without deck loads, such as bulk carriers, tankers, offshore vessels, passenger vessels and roll-on roll-off vessels.
