Many people know SARC as a supplier of the ship design software PIAS, and the on-board loading software LOCOPIAS. Less well known is that SARC also supplies services in the field of stability calculations. Within that scope SARC offers Master, Bachelor or college naval architecture students the possibility to do their graduation, office or work internship. Please note that we don’t offer an internship for non-students. Availability as of August 2023.

The work

The exact nature of the work will depend a bit on the order book at that moment, but interns will usually make a contribution, under supervision, in the field of:

• Making calculations of stability, damage stability, longitudinal strength and such
• Configuration of LOCOPIAS for specific ships
• Measuring ships or parts thereof
• Performing inclining tests
• Making linesplans
• User support, by telephone or on site (i.e. at the office of users or on board).

The company

SARC, founded in 1980, is a small, innovative company where currently eight naval architects are working. The areas of special interest are in the field of maritime technology, and are focused on ship design, specialized design calculations, advice and support, as well as the development of software for the benefit of such activities. This software is put on the market under various names, including PIAS (www.sarc.nl/pias, www.sarc.nl/fairway) and LOCOPIAS (www.sarc.nl/locopias), which have become standards in the Netherlands maritime industry.
