64-bit

PIAS is moving from Pascal to D
The standard 64-bit release, from October 5, 2026.

PIAS is moving from its current Pascal version to a new version built in D, running on 64-bit and replacing the current 32-bit version. For most users, this change won’t be visible in day-to-day use, the interface and your way of working stay the same. Files work both ways: a 32-bit file opens fine in the new version, and a file from PIAS 64-bit can also be used in the 32-bit version.

This is more than a routine upgrade. Over the past eight years, we built a dedicated translation tool and used it to convert the entire PIAS codebase from Pascal into D, not a module here and there, all of it. This gives us a solid foundation to keep developing and supporting PIAS for decades to come.

What this means for you: the new 64-bit version is included in your existing support agreement, there is no additional cost. From October 5, you can download the new version from the SARC Cloud, just like a regular update. The 32-bit version will no longer receive updates after October 5.

Introducing PIAS/ES26. Unlike ES1, ES2, and ES3, which scale with the number of cores you use, ES26 speeds up the calculation itself, regardless of how many cores you have.

Some examples from our testing, measured on a 10-core machine against the previous 32-bit version. Actual results depend on your project and hardware.

| Calculation | Speed with ES26 |
|—|—|

| Damage stability calculations numerical integration method | up to 4x faster |
| Generating damage cases compartment method | up to 3.5x faster |
| Calculating damage cases compartment method | up to 3.5x faster |

ES26 is also the foundation for new capabilities we’re building, such as taking pipelines into account in probabilistic damage stability calculations. Future additions like this will require ES26 to run.

Already using dual, octo, or vigintithreading (ES1, ES2, or ES3)? ES26 works right alongside it, both improvements stack. If you’re not on octothreading yet, we’d recommend it, most computers today have the cores to make good use of it.
