ABSTRACT
New rules for probabilistic damage stability have a great impact on ship design, both on the design itself, and on the design process. Our company has been involved in many calculations of probabilistic damage stability during the last few years. The experiences and opinions gained in those projects are discussed in this paper. It must be noted that the software referred to is the PIAS (Program for the Integral Approach of Shipdesign) program. PIAS, which has been developed and marketed by our company, contains a suit of integrated programs for design and analysis, including specialized tools for probabilistic damage stability.
